windows - MS-DOS: Why some people still programming in DOS today? -

i have curiousity: why people still programming in ms-dos??? have read flat assembler forum, , have section dos programming. have looked in internet, , has many programming tutorials , many people working today in old dos. why???

an embedded- or industrial control system boots dos can have shorter start-up time 1 boots windows. if machine exists sole purpose of running 1 particular program, , if need file system won't need many of other features os windows provide, using dos may easier trying set on "bare metal".

the increasing availability of free or inexpensive file-system drivers can communicate usb sticks or sd cards, , increasing popularity of arm-based controllers, reduce attractiveness of dos-based embedded-systems new designs, if dos-based machine works, , there's no anticipated need functionality beyond dos able provide, maintaining may easier trying design around else, if includes hardware windows drivers have never existed.

btw, television show "how it's made" has segment talking piano rolls; shows piano-roll company's puncher being operated apple ][+. since segment shot in high-def video, suggests apple ][+ being used twenty-first century though apple ][+ obsolete mid 1980s. on other hand, if company bought reasonable supply of spare parts when other companies unloading obsolete apple ][-based equipment, long can found remembers how apple ][ worked, there may little or no advantage switching more "modern".
